I heard a testimony of a missionary who smuggles Bibles into countries where they are persecuted for their belief in Jesus. He has been to places where the locals have underground church services and sometimes people share one page of the Bible at a time. Y’all, one page.
I couldn’t imagine that. I couldn’t imagine having to sneak to church. I couldn’t imagine having to share one page of the Bible with my fellow congregants. I go to church every Wednesday and Sunday no problem. I study my Bible (I own three Bibles, plus endless use of online Bibles) all the time in public settings. I am free to worship the Lord without fear of imprisonment or death. Because in this country, we have freedom. That kind of freedom especially.
I am aware of the current state of our country. I’m aware of the division and hate and problems. But despite all of the problems, we are still incredibly blessed. I don’t have to, nor do I want to, compare our country with another, because all we have to do is reflect on our daily lives and realize how free and blessed we are.
But what do we do with this freedom? Will we be like the missionary and use this freedom as an opportunity to spread hope to places that need it the most? Will we use our provisions to help those in need? Will we use our voice to speak up for the voiceless?
Will we use our freedom of gathering together as believers and intercede for the problems we face as a country and for those who do not know this freedom?
Being Christians, it doesn’t matter which political party we belong to, because we first belong to God, and we are followers of the Lamb, not a donkey or elephant. We have freedoms here that others do not, and we have freedom in Jesus that others do not know. We must use it.
Be thankful for the freedoms we have, love each other, and pray for this country.
