Ladies, this one is for you.
If you want to wait until marriage, you need to be with someone who also wants to wait until marriage. Not only that, but he needs to be intentional about waiting; boundaries, dates, and alone time all need to be taken into serious consideration. And the most important thing he needs to be intentional about is his relationship with Jesus.
Since the man was created to be the head, he needs to be a leader in this as well. If he’s leading you closer to the bed and away from Jesus, run. Your man needs Jesus; a personal intimate relationship with his savior.
Jesus has always been the most important quality I look for in a man. The Bible says that we will be known by our fruits, and fruits of a personal relationship with Jesus will always show in a man. It will show in how he treats people (not only women), in how he speaks, and in his actions.
If you’re wanting to date him or already dating him, you’re an important part of his life, and it will show in the way he treats you. How he touches you; where and how he places his hands. It will show in the things he says to you; is he polite and chivalrous in his comments, or is he inappropriately flirty? It will show in how he behaves with you and around you; does he respect your space and boundaries, or is he pushy? And the most important thing to look at is where Jesus is placed in your relationship. Is Jesus pushed to the side, or right in the center? Does he pray with you? Do you read the word together? Do you seek Jesus together?
I have already placed my heart in His hands, so I look for someone who will seek Jesus when pursuing me. Jesus knows my every detail inside and out- from the numbers of hair on my head to my innermost thoughts. The standard I have for my future man is Jesus. I know he’s not going to be perfect and I know he won’t know every single detail about me. I know he’ll fail, but he’ll have Jesus- the forgiver, redeemer, corrector, restorer, friend, and beloved. And, the most important part, he’ll understand and live by “husbands love your wives as Christ has loved the church.” (This could be a whole other post, but for the sake of this post, just think about how Jesus loves his Church.)
He needs Jesus, because if he has Jesus, he will know how to treat you, lead you, and love you the way you ought to be loved; purely and sacrificially.
Until next week,
Love, Sarah Lynn.
Jesus, I thank You that the veil was torn and now we can have a personal relationship with You. I thank You for giving us the standard of living, and I pray that we will not settle for anything less; in our own lives and while pursuing relationships. Keep us anchored to You so we are not moved by the seductions of the world, but trusting You with our love stories. Precious Jesus, protect our minds and hearts. In Your name I pray, Amen.
