Songs of Waiting

Intimacy with Jesus

When God created man, He looked at him and saw that he was good.

When Jesus prayed for all believers, He prayed we’d be together with Him and the Father.

Jesus went to the cross and died for us, and one day He’s coming back to take us with Him.

Even with our sins. Even with our imperfections. Even with our heartbreaks and even in our weakness, He sees us as good, He wants us to be with Him, He died for us, and He is coming back for us.

Jesus loves us and desires us. He desires to be united with us, He wants our hearts, and He wants relationship with us. We were created by Him to love Him and be nourished by His love; the same love that God has for Jesus, that was set before the foundation of the world.

This love is the only kind of love that will satisfy our heart’s deepest need. I need you, Reader, to pay attention to this: only Jesus can love you the way you were created to be loved. Outside of this love, you will be on a futile search for the thing that can only be found in Jesus, and He wants to give it to you. He wants to be intimate with you.

We reach this intimacy by relationship with Him. Like any relationship, we must work at it. We have to spend time with Him, speak to Him, and get to know Him. As you seek Him, He’ll draw near to you and you’ll begin experience and know the love He has for you. Your heart will be captivated by Him and as you’re filled with this love, you will desire more and more, then you will abide in intimacy in the presence of Jesus. Amazing things happen when we abide in His presence. Intimacy and staying in His presence keeps us anchored; it’s what sustains us. It’s where we surrender ourselves to Him to let His Holy Spirit come in and do what He needs/wants to do- purify us, speak to us, change us, or simply love us.

Only Jesus can love you the way you were created to be loved. Only Jesus can satisfy your heart’s deepest desires. If you search anywhere else for your problems to be fixed, your heart to be healed, your worth to be proven, or simply to be loved, your only scratching the surface. Being intimate with Jesus silences insecurities, heals hurt, reassures hearts, satisfies, protects, and truly loves; beyond the surface and into the deepest part of your being.

In this time of waiting, seek Jesus. Work on your relationship with Him and become intimate with Him. We can abide in His presence because He made it possible when He tore the veil of separation because He wanted us to be united with Him. He wants us to spend eternity with Him starting now. Just like any relationship, invest. Write love letters to Him, and listen to the love songs He’s singing over you. Tell Him about yourself and get to know Him. Spend time with Him- rest in the shadows of His love.

If you take this time of waiting to be intimate with Jesus, it will change everything for you. You’ll be so satisfied in Him, that the love you want, seek, and entertain will be His love, and this love will cover you in every aspect of your love life. Intimacy with anyone else besides Jesus or your future spouse will be out of the question.

Jesus desires you. He loves you so much. Maybe at this moment you cannot understand why or how, but know that Jesus, the Son of God, does love you and He wants you. He is full of grace and mercy that never runs out, and nothing can take away His love for you.

See you next week!

Love, Sarah Lynn

Father God, I thank You for sending us Your Son. I thank You for making a way for us to spend eternity with You, to be one with You, and to abide with You while we are still here on earth. Jesus, I thank You for Your unconditional love that captivates the hearts and fills our deepest desires. Keep us anchored in Your love. Let it grow deeper and stronger every day. I love You, Jesus. Amen.

““I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”” – John‬ ‭17:20-26

  1. Awesome! Currently studying Gospel of John for our Bible Study (up to John 19 now) and this chapter, our Saviours Prayer for Himself, The Disciples and All Believers just filled us with so much awe and raw love for the love that God, through Jesus had for us! Loved, loved, loved this! Thank you for sharing.

    1. That is exactly how I felt when I read John 17 again. I had read it before, but must have not paid close attention. It shook me to the deepest parts of my being!

      Thank you for reading!
